Apparently someone in the office is in the market for a new phone. Susan advises them to consider hers first. She goes on to recommend standardizing on one or two hardware units. This is like everyone having the same hardware laptop. We can all switch out cd-trays, batteries and power cables. The same is needed when y0u consider cell phones or actually portable devices. I would call Susan's attention to potentially the first Audiovox with WM5. That would be the SPV600 in the UK. According to MSmobiles the SPV600 in the UK is without Wi-fi. He speculates as to rather the same will be true in the States. I have been awaiting the WM5 version of the Audiovox. I recall somewhere I read late November.

Which phone is correct for you? If you need to stay in touch and informed, the Audiovox is great. If you need to stay in touch and send more than yes and no respones, then you my want to get the larger handset with qwerty keyboards. I personally like the Q over the windows version of the Treo. Why? Price of course, the Q is going to stay in between the phone form factors $299 or less and the PC form factors of $499 or more. The Q is $349 in the states. Sorry can't seem to find the actual link. Look for updates later.

UPDATE! The new Audiovox/HTC 2125 should be on the market today. According to Engadget the phone hits Nov 18.SBSRockshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13479141580707033195noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8592103.post-1132372978478555572005-11-18T22:51:00.000-05:002005-11-20T22:49:50.850-05:00First Cisco and 2nd MicrosoftWow! first Cisco pays $6.9 Billion for Scientific Atlanta. SBS2000 is a vast improvement over 4/4.5. SBS03 followed with yet more freebies! What was added to SBS03? I won't list them all, but I will list a few. The rest are here. First the coolest NEW feature is Remote Web Workplace (RWW.) This is a secure (SSL) intranet site. On this intranet you have the option of reading email, connecting to your personal desktop, connecting to the internal Company web and potentially more if you add some links!! Second the company web is built on Windows SharePoint Services and stores all documents in SQL. Last is support for mobile devices.

I remember hearing that SBS03 would include Biztalk server. That didn't completely happen but I believe if you have Premium you can get a special copy of the partner edition. Microsoft did add a special hotfix for Business Contact Manger (BCM.) The hotfix is located here. If you didn't realize it, BCM was really designed for a single user storing email via .PST mail. Microsoft then realized that many small businesses use SBS and only have one sales manger. Personally I was really glad they stepped up. We are a special group and we get special service. If you don't believe this Wait until you start seeing RWW in the full version of Windows Server 2007.

Now what will be in Cougar? Network Access Protection (NAP) has been postponed from R2 so that is eliminated. But according to this article there are many options. I am voting for Live Communication Server (LCS.) We can only wait and cross our fingers. One thing is for sure it will be SMOKIN. Could SBS may turn out to be the Linux killer in the small business space. No longer will new entrepreneurs start off with home grown solutions. The corporate version of SBS is already a better deal than the Big Brother Version.
SBSRockshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13479141580707033195noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8592103.post-1098483104408335042004-10-22T18:11:00.000-04:002004-10-23T15:40:01.600-04:00Happy Meal Security Pack for SBS!!!Happy Meal security pack: "For strong security, typical user passwords stink, but are cheap.
Two-factor authentication methods - in which a device provides a
allowing access - have long been the favorite of firms with deep
pockets. Now CryptoCard is offering an affordable two-factor
authentication Starter Kit for SMBs."

Well it seems RSA has some competition! Susan Bradley previously released a letter from Scott Schnell. Find it here. They set a 90 day release date. I have been using Sharpreader for the past 45 days and I really believe blogs are the fastest form of communication. Daily reading on the net used to take so much time via the browser method. Scoble is correct that this means browsers are less important.

Why does SBS Rock? The Microsoft office suite is a great success. I want to make SBS (suite) a bigger success. By using SBS as the entry level server SMB will have a head start in the collaboration race of the future.

I hope to utilize this blog to promote all the great features included in SBS. The current version is SBS03 and the next version will follow Longhorn server by (my guess) 9 months. Microsoft has the opportunity to do to backoffice computing what they did to desktop publishing.

Let's get SBS growing!!
